Bible Chronology Poster
By L. S. Baker Jr
The Bible writers followed ancient methods of marking time by linking events in a relational way to other events, usually referred to as relative dating. This sometimes makes it difficult for us today to quickly understand when these biblical events took place in regard to unrelated events. We solve that problem with absolute dating. This method assigns fixed year numbers that, by their very nature, provide the relationship for unrelated events.
Because of the relative dating method found in Scripture, modern scholars use different systems to understand how these relative dates should be reinterpreted as absolute dates. Here we provide a chronology that follows one of these systems. These dates begin with the most recent and move backward toward the beginning of biblical chronology. The dates given here should not be taken as the final word on the matter. This chronology is presented as a reference tool. Major events are highlighted with bold text. Biblical references are provided for entries based on chronological statements or statements about the event in the text. The poster is 12 x 39 inches and is not sold with a frame but arrives rolled up.
